Spring 2019 anime season

Since starting my anime watching obsession it's quickly become apparent that anime on TV is released in quarterly seasons - typically 12 or 13 episodes per season. The winter 2019 season, which began in January 2019, was the first time I began watching anime series from their beginning episode. Now we're in April 2019 the Spring anime season has begun here are the ones I've watched so far plus my thoughts...

Demon Slayer This is about vampires set in feudal era Japan. The animation in episode one is superb and the story has got me hooked straight away.

Fruits Basket
I read on the anime forums that was one to show a lot of promise based on the manga and indeed episode one does sound intriguing. It's about a young girl who meets two lads who just happen to be zodiac animals in disguise. There is potential for much comedy and drama so I'm curious to see where this goes.

Kono Oto Tomare!
Episode one is the best start to an anime I've seen this season so far. I'll be honest I nearly gave it a miss as the blurb didn't sound very interesting - nerdy High School kid tries to save the Koto (traditional Japanese stringed instrument) club by recruiting new members...yeah, I know, sounds dull but wait til you see it, episode one packs so much character building and backstory plus there's action and drama too. The chatter on the anime forums suggests it'll be a brilliant series if it follows the manga.

Fairy GoneThis one is about humans who have some sort of bond with fairies that gives them supernatural powers. These fairy-humans are treated as second class citizens in an industrial era world. Episode one presents the backstory and a couple of the main characters plus there's some cool fight scenes. I'll give it a one more week before deciding whether to ditch it or carry on. It's made by PA Works who normally make pretty good anime but the artwork on this one seems rushed and less sophisticated. At the very least, it isn't based on a pre-existing manga so I can safely read about it on the forums without them giving away plot spoilers.

Boogiepop - I know nothing about it apart from the fact that it's from the Winter 2019 season so I can happily binge watch the entire series without waiting each week. The cool poster art caught my attention and the theme tune is really lovely. Episode one is a bit slow but there's a compelling air of mystery to the story and it builds up nicely and there are tiny glimpses of the horror to come. Can't wait to see the rest of it.
