A Place Further Than The Universe

A Place Further Than The Universe (Sora yori mo Tooi Basho) is an absolutely wonderful anime series. Just a single 13-episode series captures the journey of four teenage girls (who don't know each other before) as they embark on a research trip to the Antarctic. The story shows their growing trust and friendship with one another and, well, that's pretty much all there is to this anime. It doesn't sound much but it's so beautifully written and every episode builds up to the climax - which btw on Episode 12, have your tissues handy because expect your eyes to well up. The final episode (13) tidies up a few hanging story threads and you are left with that warm, fuzzy glow of happiness and sadness as you know that's the last one to watch.
