Tokyo Ghoul Re
Well that was exceedingly blood thirsty and gory! Finally finished watching Tokyo Ghoul Re. It is the third series in the on-going Tokyo Ghoul anime. I haven't read the manga but this is one of the few animes I've seen that is encouraging me to explore the print format, which I believe contains a lot more story.
The whole series distorts the good v evil trope, you don't really know who to root for. For example the good hearted Sasaki is supposed to be the hero you support but he's a bit of a sap if I'm honest. I much prefer his dark and brooding alter ego Kaneki - who (spoiler alert) finally makes a full blooded appearance in episode 12 and only then does the character get to really kick some ass.
I really enjoyed season 1 and 2 but Tokyo Ghoul re loses some of the sparkle. It is way too fast paced and there are just so many characters all running around I really can't keep track of it all. I had to give up on the subtitled version and watch the dubbed version just so my eyes could keep up with the action.
Mind you, I did like many of the main characters, the anime did at least give each of them a bit of a backstory - especially when near death, they would dream of their former selves and I the viewer got to see the more 'human' and often tragic side to their backgrounds.
I'm going to look out on Ebay now to see if any folk are flogging the entire Tokyo Ghoul manga series at a good price.
